Het Belgische paviljoen werd ontworpen door het architectenbureau Patrick Genard & Asociados, in samenwerking met de architect Marc Belderbos en het bouwteam Besix- Vanhout.
De architectuur van het paviljoen focust zich op verscheidene thema’s. Eerst en vooral op het thema van de expo “Voedsel voor de Planeet. Energie voor het Leven”, evenals op de thema’s duurzame constructie, technologische innovatie en natuurlijk ook op het thema van de Belgische identiteit.

Le pavillon belge a été conçu par le bureau Patrick Genard & Asociados, en collaboration avec l’architecte Marc Belderbos et les entrepreneurs en construction Besix – Vanhout.
L’architecture du pavillon s’articule autour de différents thèmes : la thématique de l’Expo Milano : « Nourrir la planète. Energie pour la vie », une construction éco-durable, l’innovation technologique et bien évidemment l’identité belge.
